There are so many diets out there. .. How do we know which one to choose? Which ones are safe to use to lose weight and especially fat? Which diets can make us sick? Sometimes we even gain weight when we try to lose fat and get fit. What’s up with that?
Here are 7 Weight Loss Tips to help you on your way to losing weight and getting fit.
- Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. They are loaded with beneficial vitamins, fibers and antioxidants. They also fill up your stomach so that you feel full much faster. They’re also low in calories and that helps to keep your calorie count down.
- Don’t skip meals. In fact eat more small meals more often. Eating smaller and more frequent meals throughout the day will help to balance your calorie intake and also keeps your blood sugar level balanced. Instead of eating 3 big meals, try to eat 5 – 6 smaller meals and you won’t get hungry.
- Keep a weight loss journal. Keeping a weight loss journal helps you pin point your eating habits and will help you to more easily change it. If possible, have a nutritionist review your journal. She may be able to point out problem areas and get you on track.
- Know what your Basal Metabolic Rate is. Everyone is different. For example… if you weigh 140 lbs. and you perform about 20 minutes of moderate activity every day. BMR of this would = (140 x 15) + (20 x 3.5) = 2100 + 70 = 2170 kcal. BMR minus 500kcal would be 2170 – 500 = 1670 kcal. So now you know that 1670 kcal is the target in this example to losing 1 lb. of fat per week.
- Exercise every day. Move! Stop driving everywhere, take the stairs instead of the elevator, join a gym or take up dancing, just MOVE! Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day and make some of it weight-bearing exercises. This will burn those calories.
- Whenever possible, buy fresh foods and avoid packaged (processed) and convenient or fast food. Packaged and convenient foods are often higher in sodium and fat content and who knows what else may be lurking in there. Try packing a homemade lunch with organic and toxin free foods. Make your own meals from scratch, you’ll be amazed that it doesn’t take long and tastes so much better. When you shop, stay in the outside aisles and avoid the inner ones with packaged and canned foods. Shop at farmers markets and try to get free range meats and eggs. You’ll find the weight comes off easier when your body gets the nutrition it needs and you won’t have those cravings.
- Make sure you take a good vitamin supplement. It is next to impossible now days to get the nutrition we need from the food available to us. Everything has herbicides, pesticides, hormones, is genetically altered and who knows what else. Educate yourself and watch what you put in your body. It’s the only one you’ll get.
I hope these weight loss tips will help you on your quest to get fit. Just use common sense and start putting good nutrition in your body and you’ll be amazed at how fast the fat will come off.
